Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Understand education from a complex perspective to help design more effective and adaptive interventions to better address the individual and collective needs of students. METHOD: Review of the existing academic literature on the topic of complexity, a systematic search of scientific articles on the dimensions of complexity and education was carried out. RESULTS: Complexity in education is an intriguing field that seeks to understand educational systems as dynamic and adaptive entities. The results revealed that educational systems exhibit characteristics of complexity, such as interdependence between multiple variables such as students, teachers, curricula and social environments. UNFINISHED REFLECTION: Adopting the complexity approach in education can lead to significant innovations in educational practice by considering diversity and dynamics in educational systems, recognizing that oversimplification can lose sight of the characteristic complexity that defines contemporary education.
