Abstract

PROBLEM: How does the Theory of Complexity analyze educational systems? OBJECTIVE: This paper explores the concept of complexity through the work of Edgar Morin. METHOD: The data was obtained through a literary review of Edgar Morin’s publications, and other scholars have analyzed his work. RESULTS: In recent years, complexity theory has positioned itself as an important school of thought in educational research processes, with Edgar Morin's work being one of the most prominent references. This theory is based on the idea that educational systems are made up of interconnected elements with unpredictable and emergent behavior, making them complex systems. In this order of thought, complexity theory proposes a new way of understanding and addressing the challenges of education; it offers to analyze the complexity of educational systems from a multidisciplinary perspective. At the same time, it invites us to rethink the relationship between educational systems and other complex systems, such as social, cultural, and economic systems. OPEN-ENDED REFLECTION: The authors of this theory highlight the importance of education in developing a more just and equitable society. Education is conceived as a powerful tool to combat social exclusion and discrimination and to promote inclusion and social cohesion.
